The final Blog

La Mar and Rachel are settled into their new home and are adapting rather well. It is quiet in their neighborhood which is a welcomed relief from the district parsonage next to Route 19. La Mar will begin therapy again in January. Since the move, the hospital bed is no longer needed. La Mar is sleeping back in his bed and enjoys that again. They will spend Christmas with the family in the new home and look forward to many more days.
This is the final information web-blog with updates on the Carlsons. They welcome letters and emails for direct communication. If you would like to write to them, please call the district office at the number listed on the web site.

Moving Day

Moving day has arrived. The Carlson household is all a flurry with the movers coming and going. Tonight will be their last night to stay in Washington, and tomorrow night they sleep in their new home. They look forward to hearing from you and coming to visit. Be sure to call first. If you need their new address, please call or e-mail the district office.

La Mar has progressed well in the past eight months. He is able to sleep in his normal bed now, can walk short distances with little assistance, is able to read better and has a good sense of humor. He enjoys having the time to watch as many football games as he wants, something that he hasn't been able to do in years. He is so blessed to have Rachel's love and diligence in care, and I've heard him tell her many times.

Please keep them in your prayers as they settle in and learn their new home and life. Continue praying for La Mar's progress and healing. And keep the rest of the family in prayer for strength, patience, guidance, happiness, and peace.

Still progressing

La Mar is still progressing slowly, but surely. HIs eye muscles are getting stronger and the trips to therapy have helped get him outside more. He still tires after his sessions, but strength is being gained. Rachel continues with packing and trying to downsize. It's difficult to decide what objects are most important from a lifetime of memories. Some of Rachel's family will come in for Thanksgiving, so that will allow the process of moving to be suspended for a day. Moving day will be here soon enough.
Please keep praying for La Ma's continual healing, strengthening, and positive outlook on the road ahead.

Outpatient

La Mar and Rachel get to take field trips three times a week to do therapy as an outpatient. It is at a close location so travel isn't difficult at all. The sessions of speech, occupational and physical therapy are long and consecutive so La Mar is usually tired afterwards. The good news is that he is making progress. At the therapy facility, he can do exercises on equipment that wasn't available at home.
Rachel thanks everyone for their visits and appreciates that everyone calls before "dropping by" since La Mar may be asleep from exhaustion from his workout.

Progress still happening

La Mar is still progressing and all are happy with his progress. The brain can take a long time to recover from an injury, and we must all remain patient. There are new developments in stroke recovery every day. Please keep La Mar and Rachel in your prayers for continued strength and perseverance.

They continue to pack up belongings and look to the future in a new home. The actual move date is not set yet.
